Catastrophic Injuries
According to the laws in Ontario, individuals who are catastrophically injured, according to the legal definition, are entitled to increased accident benefits and damages, as compared to a person who sustains minor injuries from a collision.
A catastrophic injury is generally defined as severe injury to the brain, spine, or spinal cord, and may also involve fractures of the skull or spinal column. Persons who sustain a catastrophic injury in a motorcycle collision, car crash, slip and fall, or other accident, typically are unable to perform their activities of daily living. Victims of catastrophic injury may be eligible for compensation for income loss, medical and rehabilitative care, housekeeping and personal support.
Incidents that most often result in catastrophic injury:
- Motor Vehicle Accidents
- Motorcycle accidents
- Bicycle accidents
- Pedestrian Knockdowns
- Snowmobile Accidents
- Boating accidents
- Slip, trip and falls
